Top 10 Best Japanese Tuner Cars in the last 15 years

The 1990s saw to emergence of a new trend in Japan which led to many young male drivers’ desire to customize older Nissans, Subaru and Hondas with different assorted parts like cat-back exhaust systems, body kits, and cold-air intakes. This became popular in the US after the release of the ‘Fast and Furious’ movie.

Originally, tuners were mostly Japanese customized cars but this changed with time to include other cars like Dodge Neons, Hyundai Tiburons, and Chevy Cavaliers. Around 2008, there seemed to be a recession in the tuner industry but not all was entirely lost. Today, the general automobile industry and tuning are enjoying an enthusiastic resurgence.

  • The Honda Civic should be leading the list if tradition was to be satisfied. This was the 1990s prominent tuner car and it is still very popular today.
  • Nissan GT-R is Holy Grail for many tuners but its standard price tag of $100,000 makes it not easily affordable for many in the early 20s and this is where the Nissan 370z comes in.
  • Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ share almost all their mechanicals.
