We had a chance to catch us with an up and coming fashion designer who is a huge fan of everything we do here at Shaddowryderz.com. It is always a pleasure to connect with our fans and give back by giving them a spotlight. Often times you find that they are extremely talented individuals! Ms. Christina Copeland is one such individual. She makes handmade wearables that we think are very cool and very JDM. Here’s how the interview went:
SHADDOWRYDERZ: So we heard you’re a designer of handmade wearable items? can you tell us more about that?
MS. COPELAND: I Crochet items such as hats, scarves, gloves, shawls, and baby items. The hats range from beanie to slouchy, warm to breathable. Some of the scarves also have a detailed design while others have simple everyday design. The baby items i love to make are baby booties, hats, and diaper covers. The baby hats often have different animal themes, like a dog hat would have floppy ears or a duck hat would have a beak. Shawls are always fun. The design could be intricate or simple, could be used as a fashion accessory or to keep warm in the cold months. One of the things I like to make are blankets, whether baby, afghan, or bed covers.
SHADDOWRYDERZ: Where did you learn to do it?
MS. COPELAND: My mother noticed my love of math and how well I work with patterns, so she taught me to read crochet patterns and how to do the basic stitches. From there I challenged myself to do more difficult patterns. I learned how to a variety of items but there are only a few I make on a regular basis.
SHADDOWRYDERZ: How long have you been doing it?
MS. COPELAND: I started making crochet items when I was about 12 years old.
SHADDOWRYDERZ: What got you into it, and what inspires you to keep doing it?
MS. COPELAND: For me crocheting is all about creativity. You can make up your own patterns it doesn’t have to be specific to a pattern. I love making things and working with my hand. I have have always been one who can be easily distracted by just about anything. So crocheting has allowed me to learn how to focus and stay on task. Making something with my own hands and seeing the good results is why i continue to crochet.
SHADDOWRYDERZ: That’s awesome, can you tell us if you make wearables just for women, or both men and women? Any styling advice on how to wear your designs?
MS. COPELAND: I make wearable items for anyone who will wear it. I have made hats and scarves families. Some like to come up there own way to wear it. That’s the idea, personalize the item to fit your design and style.
SHADDOWRYDERZ: How can you see your fashion brand fitting into JDM Culture?
MS. COPELAND: Something I just started making is fingerless gloves. These gloves I have been making mostly for men, but women can wear them too. The gloves, for men, can make you look very tough. One of the guys who bought them said it gave him a very boxing kinda look. Driving cars having a fitted cap, driving gloves, or for women a crocheted tank top or bikini top is very JDM.
SHADDOWRYDERZ: And finally where can people purchase your wearables online?
MS. COPELAND: If anyone is interested in buying from me they can message me on instagram and see some of the items I make @crochetdiva2
In conclusion, we hope you enjoyed Ms. Copeland’s JDM Fashion offerings. We certainly did! Make sure you keep visiting Shaddowryderz.com for more news on JDM Culture and cool stuff like this!
